Virat Kohli another landmark hammered his maiden first-class double century second day of the Antigua Test against West Indies
Two things can be expected from Virat Kohli. One is scoring centuries whenever he comes out to bat. Second is to shatter records. Virat Kohli has enjoyed a phenomenal run across all formats in 2016. He was the player of the series in the World T20 by scoring 273 runs at an average of 136.5. He followed it up with 973 runs in the 2016 Indian Premier League.
In India’s first Test of 2016, Kohli’s magnificent batting was on display as he scored his first century in the West Indies on the first day of the first Test in Antigua. He continued on his great run by smashing even more records on his way to his maiden double century.
1 – First double century by Virat Kohli in Tests, First-Class cricket. His previous highest was 169 against Australia in Melbourne 2014. His highest in first-class cricket was 197 in 2009 in the Nissar Trophy against Pakistan’s Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited team
5 – Number of overseas centuries by an Indian captain, equalling Mohammad Azharuddin’s mark. Azharuddin achieved it in 27 Tests over a period of nine years while Kohli has achieved it in just seven Tests.
200 – The highest score by an Indian skipper in the West Indies. Rahul Dravid held the previous highest score of 146 in 2006 at St.Lucia.
5 – Fifth instance of a batsman scoring a double century in the West Indies. Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Jaffer, Dilip Sardesai and Navjot Singh Sidhu are the other batsmen to have scored a double ton in the Caribbean
17 – Number of times a captain has scored a double ton, triple ton in overseas Tests. Virat Kohli is the first Indian to achieve this feat. The highest individual score is held by Australian skipper Mark Taylor, who scored 334* against Pakistan in Peshawar in 1998
