The Indian Space Agency today achieved yet another milestone when its workhorse launch vehicle PSLV-C35, in its longest mission till date, successfully placed the 371 kg SCATSAT-1 and seven other satellites, including five from abroad, in two different orbits.
In its 37th flight, PSLV-C35 lifted off majestically from the First Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 0912 hrs and after a flight duration of 17 minutes placed SCATSAT-1 in the orbit, before placing the seven other co-passenger satellites in another different orbit, after its fourth stage engine was twice shut off and switched on.
The challenge in the launch was igniting and shutting down the fourth stage engine, which in space parlance was called Multiple Technology, twice within a short span of time in a cold and low-gravity environment and letting it coast further.
