*The tragic death of a YSRCP activist, Kaki Durga Rao:
Leader of Opposition in AP Legislative assembly and YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy questioned Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s sincerity on the issue of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. In a tweet posted last evening, YS Jagan asked Chandrababu Naidu why he was trying to clamp down on the bandh called by YSRCP if the AP chief Minister really was in favour of SCS to the state.Meanwhile, YSRCP has been staging statewide protests today demanding SCS to the state. Party leaders and workers across the state have been detained by the police .
The Bandh call given by YSR Congress Party has been successful so far in various parts of the state where the educational institutions, petrol bunks and shops remained shut since morning. Nagari MLA Roja was arrested in Puttur by the police . YSRCP official representative Ambati Rambabu who was arrested in Sattenapalli of Guntur. He was later taken to Rajulapalem police station.Senior YSRCP leaders Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana and other leaders were also detained in different parts of the state.
Former Ongole MP, YV Subba Reddy condemned the attitude of the Chandrababu Naidu government in trying to disrupt the statewide protests by YSRCP leaders and workers demanding Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh.The senior YSRCP leader said that it was evident from Chandrababu’s response to the Bandh call given by Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and YSR Congress Party president that the AP Chief Minister had a secret pact with the BJP.The former Ongole MP said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s reference to AP and Chandrababu, describing him as an ally and that the friendship between the two parties would continue, bore this out, he stated. Chandrababu had secret understanding with both the BJP and Congress, he observed.YV Subba Reddy said that Chandrababu Naidu should have actually come forward and supported the Bandh, but instead, he was trying to use the state police to disrupt protests everywhere.
Speaking to media persons in Vizag, senior party leader Ummareddy Venkateswarulu said that Chandrababu Naidu proved once again that he was in active collusion with the BJP by coming down heavily on YSRCP’s protest for Special Category Status to the state. Condemning the attitude of the TDP government YSRCP MLA from Nagari in Chittoor district said that the behaviour of the Chandrababu regime revealed that the ruling party was clearly in collusion with the BJP. Instead of supporting the YSRCP on its demand for SCS, Chandrababu ordered a despotic crackdown on its leaders and workers. TDP would be swept away by the tide of popular anger, she said.
Police across the state of Andhra Pradesh, tried to foil massive protests being held by the YSR Congress party leaders, workers, students, activists and supporters demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. YSRCP leaders including Botsa Satyanarayana, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Ambati Rambabu and other leaders were detained in different parts of the state. Similar detentions were carried out forcibly by the cops in cities and towns across Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur and Godavari districts, police went on an overdrive arresting YSRCP leaders, workers and supporters.In Kurnool, policemen forcibly pulled YSRCP lady workers and activists.
Anantapur saw a tense situation with policemen trying to disrupt a peaceful protest by YSRCP. Senior leader of the party, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy was detained, while another YSRCP leader, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy was placed under house arrest in Ongole.In Vijayawada, senior YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu and several other party workers were detained even as they were taking out a mammoth rally. The situation at the Vijayawada bus stand also became tense.

Eluru: The tragic death of a YSRCP activist, Kaki Durga Rao, marred the Andhra Pradesh bandh over Special Category Status to the state. It is worth mentioning here that YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had called for a statewide bandh today demanding SCS to the state. While participating the bandh protests in demand for the SCS, YSR Congress party worker Durga Rao died due to heart attack here in Buttayi Gudem in West Godavari district today.
Durga Rao’s death was caused by the dictatorial attitude of the Chandrababu government in trying to foil the bandh and disrupt the statewide protests by YSRCP leaders, family members and relatives said.
Chaos erupted when the police tried to shift Durga Rao, Thella Balaraju and other YSRCP workers to the police station, it is learnt. In the process, Durga Rao suddenly collapsed due to heart attack, long before he was declared brought dead by the doctors in a nearby hospital. Durga Rao’s native village Krishnapuram in Buttayi Gudem mandal, is in a state of shock and mourning over his sudden death.
YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief over the unfortunate demise of Durga Rao. YS Jagan said that Durga Rao became a martyr in the fight for SCS. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” he added. The opposition leader condemned the state government’s attitude in trying to foil the bandh, which is being carried out in a democratic and peaceful manner.
Even as we mourn the death of Durga Rao, the police continue to restrict YSRCP leaders with the house arrests, leaders pointed out.
