POLICE COMMEMORATION DAY
The history behind the observance of this day on October 21 is said to be that in 1959, on the same day, twenty Indian soldiers were attacked by the Chinese troops in Ladakh, during which ten were killed and seven were imprisoned and others managed to escape. The dead bodies of the martyred policemen were handed over to India by the Chines troops on November 28, 1959 and then, their cremation was held with full Police honours at the Hot springs in Ladakh.
