‘Determined to turn crisis into an opportunity: Chandrababu Naidu’
- Amravati to be world’s most liveable city and role model for future smart cities
- Foundation stones laid for 30 projects worth 8000 crore
The second edition of ‘Happy Cities Summit’ was kicked off today by state chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. The summit that focusses on happiness index as one of the key parameters in urban cities is a three-day long event held annually.
The day began with a cultural performance followed by an inaugural address of the eminent dignitaries and lighting of the lamp by honourable chief minister.
Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone of 30 projects worth 8000 cr INRincluding Amravati Smart Citizen Card using which Amravati citizens will be able to avail all government services seamlessly without having to visit government offices.Other projects will include international schools, hotels, international convention center and country’s largest marine center ‘Kosta Marina’.
Padma Bhushan recipient Pullela Gopichand was also present at the event to celebrate the laying of foundation stone of his upcoming Gopichand Sports Excellence Center.
CM highlighted his plan to make Amravati, people’s capital, as one of the best followed models globally and further went on to say that it will be a hub for knowledge economy and future for smart cities globally.
The CM also spoke about the vision of providing one smart phone per family to make them digitally empowered
‘Andhra Pradesh is a test bed of innovations and we are willing to convert every smart idea into reality’, said the chief minister.
He appreciated citizens’ trust in his government and informed his government was determined to turn the crisis occurred after states bifurcation into an opportunity.
He also thanked all the farmers who gave away their lands as part of land pooling schemes to fulfill the dream of people’s capital Amravati and further highlighted that by 2024 approximately 16, 000 farmers will be engaged in farming in area spread close to 18 lakh hectares.
He further shared his vision of making Amravati as one of the top 5 liveable cities globally and nationally in the years to come and signed two important MoU’s with Canton, Zurich for 2000 W smart city and CRCWSC respectively.
This year the Summit has brought together over 40 city leaders (Mayors, Greenfield city leaders and Commissioners) and participants from more than 30 countries along with globally reputed experts, delegates from various industries and institutions to discuss on making our cities happier. The summit is being held in the backdrop of the Government of Andhra Pradesh developing Amaravati, its greenfield capital.
The Summit divided into six key themes aims to establish Amaravati at the forefront of the discourse on urban innovation with a focus on citizen happiness. The Happy Cities Summit 2019 will explore the key identified topics through panel discussions and workshops during these three days.

- Designing human centered greenfield cities
