Allam Narayana: Accreditations to Online Media likely
Telangana State police are likely close in on at least 20 more websites for spreading fake or misleading news, said the Chairman of Telangana Media Academy Allam Narayana.
He was addressing the gathering at a Christmas day celebrations organised by the Telangana Online Media Working Journalists Association (TOMWJA) in association with Press Club Hyderabad at its Somajiguda premises on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Allam Narayana said according to the police, these websites have neither any registration nor any professionalism in their content. They are simply spreading fake and misleading news without any basis. “This has to be curbed”, he said and requested the TOMWJA leaders to be cautious about such nonprofessionals entering the media and polluting the atmosphere. ‘This has become a nagging problem due to the advent of social media”, he said and however assured the TOMWJA leaders to revive the suspension of accreditations to the Online Media in the next accreditation committee meeting to be held in a month or two.
The Chief Executive Officer of TSat Network R Shailesh Reddy while stating that online media is growing at a fast phase and has turned into a potential platform for the senior and retired journalists. “But at the same due to the advent of social media, the intrusions into the online media is also equally growing which needs to be curbed. The growth of Online Media cannot be stopped by denying them recognition”, he said and advised TOMWJA leaders to ensure professionalism prevails.
Reacting on this Secretary of TOMWJA Sridhar Dharmasanam said ‘We are strictly scrutinising every application that we receive for membership. Moreover, this complexity has come due to the growing infiltration into the online media by non-professionals especially in the absence of any governmental regulation. Hence, we have been demanding to frame guidelines for according recognition to the online media, he said.
President of the TOMWJA Ailu Ramesh said that it is unfair to punish the entire journalist community just because an individual who is not even a journalist has committed a crime. “If an individual does something wrong, he should only be punished but not the entire community”, he remarked and urged the Chairman to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Honorary President of TOWMJA Kasula Pratap Reddy recollected how he and the Secretary Sridhar Dharmasanam together had to run pillar to post convincing each and every officer and the political leaders about the importance of according recognition to the online media since 2014
The TOWMJA leaders handed over a memorandum listing out their demands to this effect to Allam Narayana. He later cut the cake marking the celebrations. The pastor Sajjan Raju performed prayer for the well being of journalists.
