The Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu. welcomed Singapore’s Minister of Trade & Industry, S. Iswaran, in the 3rd Joint Implementation Steering Committee (JISC) in Taj Gateway Hotel in Vijayawada on 7th june 2018. The JISC meeting followed a one-on-one meeting between the two, in which they spoke about the teamwork of the Singapore Consortium and the AP government. They also decided that direct flights between Singapore and Vijayawada should commence in a month’s time.
“The first flight from Singapore should land in Vijayawada on July 8th”, said Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
APCRDA and Singapore-Amaravati Investments Holding Ltd (SAIH) signed a Concession and Development Agreement (CADA) to develop the Start-up area in Amaravati. “After substantial progress since November, this is the last step towards starting the grounding of the project”, said Principal Secretary (Energy, Infrastructure and Investments) Ajay Jain.
He presented a brief report on the progress in the capital city, which has reached the construction stage of Phase 1. “After 1,254 days since CRDA was incorporated, economic activities and job creation is rapidly growing in the city. Out of the 33,732 acres pooled by 27,564 farmers, 61,887 plots have been returned to farmers. 63 institutions have been allotted land, including those for tourism, sports, healthcare, banks, state government and central government offices.”
Partnering with the Singapore Consortium, the Amaravati Development Corporation has planned 1,604 km of roads of which 697 are under construction. Out of the 2,354 km of water supply lines planned, 831 are under construction.
“The government complex being developed by Foster & Partners across 1,375 acres has also reached the detailed design stage. 3,840 units of housing apartments are under rapid constructions.”
The newly formed organization, Amaravati Development Partners, consists of the Singapore Business Federation, CLC, and other members of the Consortium. Officials said that ADP will be developing a project called Catalytic Development, for acting as the centre for business activities and recording the development of the capital region. It consists of a welcome gallery, an exhibition area and a visitor area. The project will be completed by June 2019.
The Chief Minister said that the AP government also requires the assistance of the Consortium to bring in convergence of activities in infrastructure, tourism, education and the service sector. “Catalytic Development should be our medium to bring in more investments and economic activities. Creating an ecosystem to encourage entrepreneurship is important for ensuring sustainability.”
Officials from Centre for livable cities (CLC) said that an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan is under progress, so that existing policies and institutions can be studied and requirements for upgradation can be understood.
After a site visit to Pulichintala dam, they said that studying alternative water sources is critical for the longer term. More deep dive workshops in Greenery Planning and Land Management has been planned after several successful ones were conducted on land use planning, transport, urban design, power and housing.
The World Cities Summit will be hosted in Singapore from 8 to 10 July, in which the Chief Minister will be speaking at the Mayors Forum (8th July) and the Plenary Opening Session (9th July). CRDA Commissioner will also participate on July 10th on the thematic track on governance. There will be a booth allotted to showcase the development and planning of Amaravati.
Officials also presented the plans to ensure Green buildings and Skill Development programs. There will be a Mesh developed to coordinate activities of Skill Development for the LPS community, residents, new industries and to nurture talent for emerging entrepreneurs. The first Centre of Excellence of the Mesh will commence operations in the end of 2019.
